The Saddlebred: America's Horse of Distinction
Published in Hardcover by Harmony House Publishing/Louisville (November, 1991)
Authors: Judy Fisher Oetonger, William Strode, William Butler, and Todd Buchanan
Average review score:

The Saddlebred
The pictures in this book are quiet gorgeous, and the Family Tree lines impressive.

The history compiled within this book is equally impressive spanning over more than 400 years.

This book gives you an overview of The Saddlebred Breed and its background as well as it's uses in society. I would classify this book as a History of the Saddlebred if you will.

When I purchased this book, I was looking for a book that would not only tell me more about the breed itself, but how to work with as well as train this type of horse. I was also interested in learning more about the general characteristics, personality, habits & riding styles of this breed, more that the actual history.

This is an excellent "coffee table" book for horse lovers. I personally was looking for a book that contained more day to day information about the breed, although I did find the material in the book very interesting and somewhat helpful.

Samuel Todd's Book of Great Colors
Published in School & Library Binding by Atheneum (April, 1990)
Author: E. L. Konigsburg
Average review score:

Colors Everywhere
What color is a pumkin? What foods are brown? Konigsburg answers these questions by exploring the world of colors through foods and living things. The exagerated pictures add to the fun of reading her book, and Konigsburg's choice of word placement gives a sense of suspense. She surprises the reader with every turn of the page. Konigsburg also expreses her humor through her choice of what objects will represent each color. Who would think of eggplants for the color purple or freckles for the color brown? Konigsburg also lends a moral to young readers when she says "Some things can be any great color, and some have no great color at all. Like hugs and kisses and songs. And they are some of the best things of all."

Konigsburg's childlike observations of the world will help keep young children excited as adult read the book as read-a-loud and will encourage children to look around their world searching for colors.

The Secret Life of Aphra Behn
Published in Hardcover by Rutgers University Press (September, 1997)
Author: Janet M. Todd
Average review score:

One volume, two rare women
Aphra Behn--poet, playwright, novelist, spy--was no ordinary woman of the Restoration. A commoner who mingled with the royals and shocked society with her bawdy language; at once a feminist, an abolitionist and a Tory; she's a figure of intrigue whose life remains largely unknown but commands our curiosity. Janet Todd's thorough, lively, and scholarly biography does her justice; her book carefully documents Behn's life without diminishing her mystique. If you care anything at all about verbal swordplay, clever storytelling, or listening to what women's voices have to say about our history, you must read Behn--and once you have, you'll be compelled to read Todd, as well.

Security+ Training Guide
Published in Paperback by Que (27 March, 2003)
Authors: Todd King and David Bittlingmeier
Average review score:

Coupled with the EC2 book & you have a good set of tools.
Network Security is becoming the most sought after position in the IT world these days, yet in order to get these jobs you need to be certified. There are over 20 possible security certifications so where do you start?

How do you determine which exam to take and which certification is right for you? Well you might want to start with the CompTIA Security+ vendor neutral certification. Now all you need is the right study material and that is where this book comes in.

With over 600 pages of material covering every exam objective this book has good coverage of the material. I think that certain areas such as PKI management could be expanded just a bit.

Also the practice questions were close to the actual exam, and I think that more should be added. The author certainly has an excellent understanding of the material and evident throughout the book.

With the ever changing world of Security, this book should have regular updates, either via the web or a new edition of the book. Also included is a Prep Logic cd, while Prep Logic does produce a high quality product this is not the full version of the product. Although for the money it should have been included.

Overall this book is a useful tool outside the exam and you stand a decent chance of passing the exam. Couple this book with the Exam Cram2 Security+ and you have a better chance.

Shakespeare's Flowers
Published in Paperback by Johnson Books (August, 1997)
Authors: Jessica Kerr and Anne Ophelia Todd Dowden
Average review score:

scents of shere poetry!
This book has been a great reference for me of all the flowers referred to in Shakespeare's writings. My daughter Rosemary, is playing the lead in "Much Ado About Nothing," her school play this Spring. I wanted to have the flowers available to give the students and teachers involved and now I have the Best ideas. Thank you so much for advertising this book of colors and scents for the imagination!

Shattered Dreams: The Story of Mary Todd Lincoln (Notable Americans)
Published in Hardcover by Morgan Reynolds (01 July, 1994)
Author: David R. Collins
Average review score:

A compassionate picture of a misunderstood First Lady
David Collins has presented an enigmatic character in a compassionate and lively manner. Mrs. Lincoln's instability is legendary, but when examined in a modern context it becomes more understandable -- even bogus! Given all the tragedies in her life, plus the possibility of medical problems (it is reported that both she and President Lincoln were plagued with migraines) it is amazing that she fared as well as she did. Collins starts with her insanity trial then journeys back to lay the stage for her son's action. Even though some might question the loyalty of a son who was declaring his mother insane, Collins manages to present him also in a sympathetic manner. This is a very engaging book that both I and my nine-year-old son enjoyed. With its handy index, it would also be a good volume for students preparing research projects.

Short Fuse: The Global Anthology of New Fusion Poetry
Published in Paperback by Rattapallax Press (28 September, 2002)
Authors: Todd Swift, Philip Norton, and Hal Niedzviecki
Average review score:

What a Find! Love the CD
Very Impressive work. This is better than so many other anthologies I have seen of late that miss the boat when it comes to capturing the integral and exciting contemporary. You won't think poetry is boring any more! Well Done. And the CD is awesome. Nicole Blackman's voice is enough to make you become a lover of spoken word.

Average review score:

Very funny PK life
This is a simple and fun book to read. It is a great book for Preacher's Kids or anyone who grew up in the church. The Hafer brothers use personal stories along with some 'preacher licence' to tell some humorious antedotes.
